Installation of 4,023 feet of 63-inch diameter fiberglass reinforced pipe (FRP) in five drives of various lengths using an earth pressure balance (EPB) tunnel machine through a mix of caliche and sand with substantial groundwater being present. Two of the drives required tunnelling from the high side further complicating the process and with flooding a constant threat, shafts had to be dewatered around the clock. The project also required switching between a screw conveyor and traditional conveyor depending on the situation to complete the job as planned.
