Primoris Services Corporation (Primoris) announced today that it has been selected to provide mechanical construction of the new Unit 4 at the Grand River Energy Center (GREC) in Chouteau, Oklahoma. The project will employ state-of-the-art simple cycle technology to meet the needs of the Grand River Dam Authority’s (GRDA) evolving grid, replacing the center’s last remaining coal-fired unit and supplementing wind power production.
“We’re pleased to partner with GRDA and uphold its commitment of providing affordable and reliable energy to its customers,” said Jeremy Kinch, president of Primoris’ Energy segment. “The GREC Unit 4 project underscores our commitment to advancing cutting-edge technology that sets new industry standards for clean, resilient, and scalable power generation. We’re proud to have strong collaborators and an expert project team delivering this work with unmatched safety and quality.”
Unit 4 will be a fast-start, 426-megawatt Mitsubishi 501JAC gas turbine, a class known for its efficiency and emission control. It will be the first of its kind to operate in simple cycle in the U.S., providing operational flexibility and fast start-up times. Unit 4 will also include the world’s largest selective catalytic reduction system, crucial for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
“The inclusion of the pioneering Mitsubishi 501JAC turbine, coupled with the substantial selective catalytic reduction system, is ideal for today’s dynamic energy landscape,” said Michael Johnson, director of projects with Primoris’ Energy segment. “As a leader in sustainable energy solutions, we look forward to executing this important market shift towards advanced-class gas turbines for peaking applications. Once complete, the project will provide a clean, reliable energy source for the future.”
“We look forward to the role Primoris will play in bringing this state-of-the-art generation technology to our Grand River Energy Center,” said Dan Sullivan, GRDA’s president and chief executive officer. “The collaborative partnership in the Unit 4 project will serve to strengthen the reliability and efficiency of our diverse electric generation portfolio to serve our customers.”
Simple cycle power plants can supplement renewable energy sources through their ability to start and stop quickly, allowing their use during peak load times, resulting in grid stabilization and lowered reliance on fossil fuels. The GREC Unit 4 project is set to generate significant economic and environmental benefits for the Chouteau, Oklahoma area, supporting local jobs during construction and providing a stable energy source for businesses and communities.
