ESG Commitment

Primoris is committed to continuing progress on environmental, social and governance issues. With the formation of an Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Committee in 2020, we have a structure in place to drive ESG initiatives and weave our commitment into every aspect of our business.

ENVIRONMENT

Our environmental priorities are reflected both in the client projects we take on and the way we manage our own operations. Our growing renewable energy portfolio includes a number of solar projects as well as retrofitting refineries to process biofuels and produce biodiesel. In addition, we are beginning to work with clients to reduce and offset their carbon footprint on solar energy projects.
Across the Primoris family of businesses, we are conscientious about managing environmental risks and impacts of every project. We have also implemented energy-efficient technology in many of our own facilities.

SOCIAL

Our first social responsibility is to protect the health and safety of all our employees, project stakeholders, the public, and all others that may be impacted by our operations. Our comprehensive health and safety program integrates safety practices into our daily work routine to prevent accidents and injuries.

We also strive to create a respectful and inclusive work environment that empowers not only our employees and stakeholders, but also the communities in which we live and work. Our focus on diversity and inclusion includes taking steps to improve and track female and minority representation in management and leadership positions and creating strategic alliances with various Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) suppliers.

GOVERNANCE

Primoris has a strong commitment to excellence and a company culture reflecting the highest standards of ethical conduct. A review of governance documents undertaken in 2019 resulted in publication of refreshed Corporate Governance Guidelines (April 2021) and Code of Conduct (August 2021). To align our Board governance with best practices: we declassified the board terms, established a mandatory director retirement age of 75, created a director stock ownership requirement, and prohibited hedging and short-selling with Primoris stock.

CASE STUDY

Sawgrass Reuse Water Treatment Plant, Phase 1

In South Florida, up to 50% of available drinking water is used for irrigation. Primoris helped the city of Sunrise, Florida, extend its water supplies and satisfy new regulatory requirements by constructing a facility to produce 2 million gallons per day of highly treated reuse water. This water can be used by the municipality for irrigation on public property or process water in its treatment facilities. It can also be sold as non-potable water to customers or neighboring municipalities.

The project, constructed adjacent to the Sawgrass utilities water and wastewater treatment facility, takes secondary effluent from the facility and treats it to tertiary reuse standards. As distribution infrastructure is added, the volume of reuse water can be increased.

CASE STUDY

From Dairy Farm to Diesel Fuel

Renewable natural gas and gas-to-liquids projects that were deferred during the pandemic are now moving into front-end engineering. Right at the end of the 2Q2021, Primoris was awarded a contract for the design and supply of a Gas-to-Liquids plant in the US.

This facility will take dairy farm waste and produce high-quality diesel fuel. The process creates dual environmental benefits by increasing the sustainability of the dairy farm and producing high-quality transportation fuels with zero sulfur emissions. This project started in late June 2021 with a 12-month schedule, which includes engineering, procurement and module fabrication.

Greener Fuels

As traditional oil and gas producers seek ways to reduce their greenhouse gas footprint, Primoris is working side-by-side with them to retrofit refineries and adapt them to use renewable resources.

We have multiple projects underway that involve retrofitting oil refining facilities to process biofuels and vegetable oils to produce green diesel. Our commitment is to support all our customers in finding and implementing environmentally responsible solutions.

CASE STUDY

Utility Scale Solar Projects

Solar energy consumption in the United States increased 22% between 2019 and 2020. Primoris is enabling the adoption of this renewable resource through our construction of utility-scale solar energy systems and power plants in states across the southwestern U.S. In operation, these facilities emit no pollutants and create no greenhouse gases, making them a remarkably sustainable energy option.

CASE STUDY

Restoring Power

When a catastrophic ice storm in February 2021 left 80% of a cooperative’s customers across 18 counties in the northeast without electricity, Primoris personnel and equipment were on hand to help restore power as quickly as possible. The task included replacing hundreds of downed transmission poles, removing huge trees that had fallen across power lines, and repairing or replacing countless spans of transmission wire.

After working continuously for 13 days, crews from the cooperative, Primoris and other contracting partners – totaling more than 900 crew members – were able to restore power to all customers. Primoris crews and others continued the cleanup and repair process another two weeks before all systems were fully functioning.

The CEO of the cooperative praised the “professionalism, positive attitude, work ethic and resolve to restore electricity to our members” of our Primoris crews, as well as their dedication to working safely as they completed the largest power restoration effort in the cooperative’s 84-year history.
