ARB/SoCal Gas Line 2000 Project

Installation of 160 feet of 30-inch diameter natural gas transmission pipe located near the City of Indio in the Coachella Valley of California. The bore crossed under Interstate 10 with varying ground conditions which required us to switch back and forth from auger boring to hand mining to remove rocks and boulders which obstructed the bore path.

Pipeline Integrity Services in Southern California

We managed the upgrade and modernization of natural gas pipelines in a major metropolitan area in Southern California, including replacing existing and strength-testing new pipes.

The project included the installation of six miles of 16” natural gas transmission line, one main line valve assembly, three regulator stations, and an accompanying fiber optics line. Safety features included upgrading thicker steel, a warning mesh above the pipeline to prevent accidental excavations, automatic shut-off valves, and fiber optic technology to detect ground disturbances that could affect pipeline integrity.

Sandhill Interceptor Project
Installation of 4,023 feet of 63-inch diameter fiberglass reinforced pipe (FRP) in five drives of various lengths using an earth pressure balance (EPB) tunnel machine through a mix of caliche and sand with substantial groundwater being present.

Two of the drives required tunnelling from the high side further complicating the process and with flooding a constant threat, shafts had to be dewatered around the clock. The project also required switching between a screw conveyor and traditional conveyor depending on the situation to complete the job as planned.

Sundt Loop 303 Project

Shaft excavations, shoring, and the installation of two 110-inch diameter, 825-foot long rib and lag tunnels for two water lines and a sewer line of varying diameters to service a new semiconductor manufacturing facility. The project required day and night shifts with a wheeled tunnel boring machine (TBM) to progress through the caliche, rock, and cobble encountered along the tunnel horizon.

Tapani North East 99th Sewer Project

Installation of 1,056 feet of casing and sewer carrier in three drives using the guided boring method of installation, whereby pilot tubes are first installed then followed by a reamer and cased augers to complete the drive at the proper diameter. Following tunneling, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sewer pipe was installed on spacers and pulled into the casing then tied in. Groundwater and substantial rain required continuous dewatering and removal of equipment from the pits every day to prevent equipment damage and impacts on the project.
